It's Women's History Month and we're celebrating with an author talk! Join us as author and art historian Bridget Quinn delves into the lives and careers of brilliant female artists from 1600 to the present. Drawing from her book, "Broad Strokes: 15 Women who Made Art and Made History (In That Order)," local author Bridget Quinn will present an art-filled slideshow and talk. This is art history for the modern art lover, reader, and feminist. Bridget Quinn is a writer, art history scholar, and educator. She’s worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and taught art history and architecture at Portland State University and the San Francisco Waldorf High School. First Thursdays are free programs for adults held every first Thursday of the month at the Dublin Library.

Begin with a snapshot of Dublin in 1968, when the Dublin Chamber of Commerce was formed. As a small town with fewer than 100 businesses, fast-growing Dublin had beauty salons and barber shops, auto repair shops, and a cocktail lounge or two to serve new suburbanites who were moving here by the thousands. Learn about the Chamber’s first battle involving a soapbox derby, and see how the Chamber advocated for local businesses. By 1982, Dublin had more than 675 businesses and had become a major shopping and recreational destination with a bowling alley, drive-in movie theater, roller rink, and every type of fast food imaginable. Discover the Chamber’s role in helping Dublin gain a reputation as one of the best cities in California for business owners.

Parks Air Force Base was a basic training center, overseas replacement depot, and air base defense training area during the Korean War. Learn about the Korean War and how Parks Air Force Base provided basic training and prepared airmen for flight school and service. See on display a recruit's ‘regulation’ bunk complete with footlocker and souvenirs; uniforms including the herringbone jumpsuit worn for work duty; an officer’s desk complete with General MacArthur snow globe and original Parks AFB yearbooks with photos depicting the training and camaraderie Parks AFB personnel; and original construction plans, reports, photographs, and documents for Parks AFB and Hospital.
