Clean Water Program:
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
The City of Dublin's Clean Water Program is a federally-mandated program under the Clean Water Act. The purpose of the Clean Water Program is to eliminate pollutants, such as oil, dirt, pesticides, litter, etc. from entering the storm drain system, so that only clean water enters our waterways and ultimately the San Francisco Bay.
With stormwater pollution being the leading cause of water quality problems in creeks and the San Francisco Bay, the City of Dublin continues in its efforts to increase public awareness. Informational pamphlets are available year-round at the Public Works front counter at City Hall, as well as on the City's Clean Water Program website. In addition, a Clean Water booth is displayed at the City's two major community events: Day on the Glen and the St. Patrick's Day Festival, where the City's Clean Water Program Coordinator is available to answer any questions and to provide the public with informational pamphlets about how to reduce pollutants entering our waterways.
To further increase awareness, the Clean Water Program Coordinator organizes volunteer work groups to install metal storm drain markers at storm drain inlets that remind the public that no dumping is allowed, as the storm drain leads to a creek.
