Permits

Encroachment Permits:

An encroachment permit is required for any work performed in the public right of way. Examples of work requiring an encroachment permit would include (but are not limited to) trenching in the street for a utility repair, replacement of sidewalk, installation of a drain through the curb, construction or widening of a driveway approach, or closure of minor streets for “block parties.” On most streets, the public right of way extends approximately eight feet from the face of curb.

For more information on encroachment permits, or to obtain application forms, fee schedules, or construction details and specifications, please call the Public Works Department at 925.833.6630 or contact us by e-mail.

Grading and Sitework Permits

A grading or sitework permit may be required for work on private property which includes (but is not limited to) excavation or moving of dirt, installation or alteration of drainage, paving, or installation of site improvements such as sidewalk or significant landscaping. The fee for a grading or sitework permit is the actual cost of permit processing, plan checking, and inspection, and a deposit may be required. To determine whether you need a grading or sitework permit, or to obtain application forms, fee estimates, or construction details and specifications, please call the Public Works Department at 925.833.6630 or contact us by e-mail.
