National Night Out)

But First, There’s the KICKOFF!

Each year Dublin Police Services invites Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and Co-Captains to a casual dinner where we kick off National Night Out. This year, we will be hosting the 18th annual National Night Out Kickoff on Friday, July 16th, 2010 at the Library Community Room, Dublin Library, from 6pm – 8pm.

The kickoff serves several purposes: it provides an opportunity for our partners in crime prevention to convene in a casual setting and mingle with each other and with City of Dublin staff and councilmembers; it motivates residents to participate in National Night Out in August; and most importantly, this event is the City of Dublin’s way of saying thank you for doing your part to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Our 2010 Kickoff will take the form of a Block Captain’s Social, where we are fortunate to have Dispatch Supervisor Dionne Cola as our keynote speaker. Ms. Cola will address the topic: “How to Be Heard When Calling For Service.” We will dine on a pizza and salad buffet, while socializing with one another and encouraging involvement in National Night Out.

Dublin’s Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and Co-captains are encouraged to attend this fun get-together (and bring a treat for the dessert potluck).

To RSVP for the Kickoff, call (925) 833-6677 or (925) 833-6686, or fax the Kickoff RSVP form to (925) 452-2172.

Save the Date: National Night Out - Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Rally Your Neighbors Together for a Night Out Against Crime

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 marks the 27th anniversary of National Night Out! National Night Out — which is traditionally the first Tuesday in August — began as a concept for generating greater crime prevention involvement among residents. In the past, residents would leave their porch lights on to demonstrate their anti-crime stance. Today, residents organize block parties, cookouts, parades, contests, neighborhood walks, festivals, rallies, and community service events such as a park clean-up.* Here’s your chance to show crooks you won’t put up with crime!

The Crime Prevention Unit encourages you to plan an activity in which your neighborhood can reconnect and show its support for the original meaning behind National Night Out. Register your event with us, and members of the police and fire departments will schedule a block of time to visit you and your fellow neighbors. McGruff might also be available that day! National Night Out is August 3rd, and visits from the police and fire crews will take place from 5-8pm.

Call (925) 833-6677 for more information. To register your event, fill out the NNO REGISTRATION FORM and fax it to 925-452-2172 BY JULY 30th.

Note: Anyone interested in blocking off their street to hold a block party should contact the Public Works Department at (925)-833-6630 to get a Block Party/Encroachment Permit.
