Wellness Programs - Health and FitnessBeginning T'ai Chi ChihImprove your health, coordination, balance and energy through T'ai Chi Chih. This is an ancient gentle art that improves coordination, energy level, health, and balance. Master 20 simple, repetitive non-strenuous movements that stimulate the body, mind, and spirit. New students are welcome to begin at any time. Classes are held each Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Instruction is provided by Corazon Panganiban. Fee is $1.25. Chair PilatesPilates is an excellent way to increase bone density. Improve posture, gait and breathing by learning and applying the core principles of Pilates. Increase mobility, flexibility, and energy through movements that enhance daily living. Use a chair as a prop to sit, balance, and stretch. Particular attention will be given to proper sitting, standing and lying posture. Classes are held Mondays 3:00 - 3:45 P.M. Special fee is $11.00 for 3 classes per month, or $15 for 4 classes per month. Pre-registration and prepayment one week prior to each session is preferred. Instruction is provided by Valentin. Tri-Valley Trail TrekkersTuesdays. 8:45 AM - $1.25/walk This group enjoys the trails and parks of the East Bay with 3-to-6 mile hikes. Participants carpool and share transportation expenses. Return time depends on destination and length of hike. See printed flyer posted at the Senior Center for the schedule. First timers must contact Ed Osada at (925) 829-9285 and complete an emergency waiver form at the Senior Center prior to the walk. Meet in Classroom A before the 9:00 AM departure. The walks are generally 2-to-3 miles. They are on mostly paved level trails to easy grades and at a leisurely pace. Pickup a printed schedule at the Senior Center for the walk locations. Designed to increase respiratory and cardiovascular efficiency through low impact aerobics. This class are held each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:40 - 10:30 A.M. Learn techniques that help with fall prevention, standing, increasing physical activity and being comfortable while performing these activities. Good walking shoes are a must. Register seven days prior to the first class. Instructor: Fran Scott. Fee: $15.00/4 classes/month JOINT RELIEF THROUGH MOTIONTuesdays. 11:00 AM-11:45 AM Improve yours range of motion and endurance. Sit or stand as you go through movements to increase your flexibility, balance, stamina and strength. Resistant bands, tubes, blocks or small balls will be supplied when needed.
