Pioneer CemeteryThe Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission invites you to enjoy your city this summer. Start with the old and step back in time as you stroll through the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery, reading the stories that the old tombstones tell. Located at the Dublin Heritage Center (6600 Donlon Way), the cemetery provides a glimpse at the history of Dublin's early settlers. Many of Dublin's pioneers were buried in the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery, which was formally established in 1859 with the burial of Tom Donlon. Tom Donlon fell to his death while helping construct Old St. Raymond's Church. A walk along the path in the shade of giant oak and walnut trees takes one back in history. One can obtain an easy history lesson by reading the inscriptions on old tombstones and spending a few moments gleaning the facts from the family history signs. The Dublin Pioneer Cemetery is currently an active cemetery, however, there are no plots available for purchase. |
